A series of work based on the plight of displaced people around the world
I have been concerned about the IDP's of Burma since 2001 when I lived in Chiang Mai in Thailand. There I met an extraordinary couple who have committed their lives to helping these forgotten people, who are forced from their homes and live in makeshift shacks all along the Thai/Burmese border. They have no status; they cannot leave the camps and enter Thailand, as they're not granted visas, nor can they return to their homes, as these have been burnt to the ground by the vicious military dictatorship which rules that country.
This work is trying to reflect the situation that many millions of people around the world are facing. It all began when my ceramics teacher asked us to make work based on the word 'Flight'. These are the outcomes.
